The Hope That Jesus Brings

Introduction:

In a world that is filled with despair, it is hard to find hope. Hope can be defined as “desiring with expectation of obtainment” or “a feeling of trust.” The dictionary goes on to say that hope is “an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation or desire that some specific goal will be achieved.” When we put our hope in Jesus, we can have an eternal perspective because our hope is not placed in this world but in the next. This is what Jesus meant when He said in John 14:1-3, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

What is the opposite of hope?

The dictionary says it is despair or hopelessness. If we don’t have hope, it means we have given up. It means we no longer believe things can get better. It means we believe the future will be just like the present or worse. According to the World Health Organization, “Depression is the leading cause of disability worldwide, and is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease. Depression affects people of all ages from all walks of life.” In other words, depression does not discriminate by age, gender, race, or social status. It doesn’t matter how rich or poor you are—depression doesn’t care. It doesn’t matter what degrees you have—depression will still find its way into your life.

Depression often looks like withdrawing from friends and family, losing interest in hobbies or activities that were once enjoyed, fatigue, irritability, and feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness. When these symptoms persist for more than two weeks, it might be time to seek professional help because depression can lead to suicide. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Suicide is now the 10th leading cause of death in the US and rates are rising across all age groups.(https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/suicide-mortality/suicide-rates-rising-in-nearly-all-states.htm)  However, there is hope because Jesus said in John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace In this world you will have trouble But take heart! I have overcome the world.” So even though we will face trials and tribulations in this life, Jesus has overcome them all! He has conquered death!

What are the 5 effects of depression?

Among the physical symptoms are fatigue, muscle aches, headaches, and lower back pain, as compared to sleep patterns. It can be easily dismissed to blame for this problem, which can also be related to other conditions, but it is mainly due to depression.

The second symptom is related to the first, as people who are depressed tend to have a hard time concentrating. This can lead to problems at work or school, and make it difficult to complete simple tasks.

Another common symptom of depression is changes in eating habits. Some people may lose their appetite altogether, while others may find themselves eating more. This can lead to weight gain or weight loss.

Depression can also cause people to withdraw from social activities and become isolated. This is often because they don’t feel like they have anything to offer, or they are too tired to interact with others.

Finally, depression can lead to suicidal thoughts or attempts. This is the most serious symptom of depression, and it is important to get help if you or someone you know is experiencing these thoughts.

Conclusion:

When we put our hope in Jesus Christ alone, we can rest assured that no matter what happens here on earth—He has everything under control! And because He lives eternally—so do we! If you are struggling today with depression or any other mental health issue—please reach out for help! You are not alone! And there is always hope because Jesus died on the cross for YOU!
