The Season of Advent - Joy

"The birth of Christ is the central event in the history of the earth – the very thing the whole story has been about." – C.S. Lewis

This week we light the third Advent candle and celebrate the Joy of our coming Savior.

Have you ever watched an early morning sunrise or a sunset and marveled at all the beautiful hues of purple and red and orange? If so, then you have probably experienced joy along with it. Like that sunrise or sunset, joy has many shades that should never be determined by how we feel, but on whom God is. The joy of the Lord can thrill us or make us resolute in the secure knowledge of God's presence. Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16 to be joyful always. Jesus tells us, "With God all things are possible." Mark 9:24. The combination of these two truths should help us be joyful each day.

It is recorded in Luke 1:41 that when Mary greeted Elizabeth, the child (John), "leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit". The greeting from Mary, to that child, was the sound of salvation. When you hear the sound of your salvation, what is your response? Do you leap and dance for joy? Are you filled with the Holy Spirit at the sound of your salvation?
